Fun in The Sun: Introducing the Volkswagen Beetle Dune
Remember the days of Dune Buggies and Baja Bugs? Volkswagen did.
Introducing the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune. Inspired by Baja Bugs and Dune Buggies, this special edition coupe and convertible takes us back to those carefree days of sand and fun. The Beetle Dune is a thoroughly modern twist on the idea…let us explain!
Though it may have a crossover look, it is certainly not far from its inspiration from the past. The Beetle Dune has only a suspension height raise of just 0.4 inches with an overall width extension of just 0.5 inches. Nothing has changed on the Beetle’s suspension, except for the eighteen-inch wheels and all-season tires on board. In all, it still drives like a Beetle.
Take a look on the outside even more. Up front is a front bumper that includes a skid plate and aggressive lower grilles. Plastic cladding is added on the wheel arches, along with a side protector in-between the arches. There is a rear spoiler and other trim that pertains to the Dune’s sporty look.
Step inside for a two-tone black and gray cloth interior with sports countered seats up front. On white or black models, the color-keyed parts of the interior are black. On Sandstorm Yellow models, they are of the same body color. The word “Dune” appears on the lower part of the third spoke of the flat-bottom steering wheel and there is matching or contrasting color trim in the instrumentation. Otherwise, it is the same as all Beetles – right down to the standard MIB II infotainment system with AppConnect.
This model is only available with the 1.8 liter TSI turbocharged engine and the six-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive. There is a choice of going with the coupe or convertible.
