Coming Soon: 2019 Volkswagen Jetta
Improving the breed goes beyond just a facelift, an engine swap and new technology and safety features. It comes from changing everything from the ground up. Such a change in a vehicle must go beyond performance, economy, space, design, technology, and safety. It has to not look at any previous blueprints of the vehicle but to simply throw them away and start from scratch.
This is what Volkswagen has accomplished in the most anticipated debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Introducing the all new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta, the affordable high-value sedan San Fernando Valley drivers have been asking for.
The 2019 Jetta was developed through a very extensive re-imagination from the ground up. The MQB platform from the Golf and all new Tiguan provided the framework to create a sedan that would change the perception of previous Jetta. The flexibility of the platform enabled a larger car feel for the freeway, but us small enough for great memorability in the crowded city.
The new Jetta signals a major change in the direction of Volkswagen design. There is a sculptured look that starts with a large grille framed by new LED lighting units, stretching along a scalloped side profile, a sleeker roofline, and an enhanced rear end. The new Jetta also rides on a longer wheelbase – 105.7 inches, providing more interior room and a more refined ride. In all the new Jetta exudes a premium look that will set it apart from the competition.
What will wow Volkswagen owners is the new interior design. There is a new premium feel inside with higher quality materials and better touch points all around. This will be the first Jetta to offer the Digital Cockpit display – standard on SEL and SEL Premium models. The MIB II screen is more integrated and raised to the same eye level as the instrumentation binnacle. Expect higher content across the board – including a wider standard feature list full of upgrades compared to the current Jetta lineup.
Not to mention, there will be some other features never offered in the Jetta. This includes a 10 color ambient lighting that surrounds the cabin with any mood you want. Also, BeatsAudio will provide the top speaker set-up through a 400-watt system fed through strategically positioned sound throughout the cabin. This will be the first Volkswagen to offer a BeatsAudio system.
Initially, the 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged engine will power five models for 2019 – S, SE, SEL, SEL Premium, and R-Line. Standard is a six-speed manual transmission, while a majority of models will receive an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. The latter will improve fuel economy and provide the TSI engine with more flexibility on the highway and around town.
With a lot of premium features and upgrades within this new Jetta, you may expect to pay more for one. The biggest news is that pricing for the 2019 Jetta will be lower than the outgoing model. It was announced at NAIAS that pricing will start from $18,745.
