The Volkswagen Passat for 2017
Last fall, we saw a heavily revised Volkswagen Passat. It came with updates inside and out, including the addition of the MIB II lineup of infotainment connected services. It also received some serious driver assistance features that made the Passat one of the safest cars in its class.
One does not rest on its laurels. That is why the 2017 Passat is here with a more simplified and updated lineup, along with some minor changes for the new model year. Here is a rundown of these changes:
The S, SE and R-Line retain the 1.8 liter TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Selecting either the SE w/Technology Package and SEL Premium gives customers the choice of the TSI and the 3.6 liter VR6 engine. This is the first time in years that the VR6 is offered in a lower trim level than its top model.
The base SE gets additional standard equipment, including Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Traffic Alert and KESSY keyless access with push button start. The Lighting Package with foglights is now available on the base SE. Adding the Technology Package to the SE also comes with more upgrades, including the 18-inch Chattanooga alloy wheels, remote start, LED headlamps and taillights and Park Distance Control.
The biggest change is in the R-Line, which now gets more standard equipment to go along with its sporty look and feel. The biggest update is the Composition Media touchscreen now including Car-Net services, including App-Connect, three months of SiriusXM satellite radio, USB connectivity and voice control. In addition, the R-Line now gets Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, power driver’s seat with V-Tex leatherette upholstery and heat control. Available on the R-Line is the Lighting Package, adding more LED lighting all around.
